Go to WesternSwing.com for CD/ DVD Listings and Western Swing related links and help support the small lables who devote themselves to producing western swing music.
The MP3s available on this blog are from collections of western swing 78s and out-of-print LPs donated by a small group of devoted collectors. Our main purpose is to share and introduce to others this great and mostly unknown music. Here at WS on 78 we try not to post music that's available for purchase. So please don't request any CDs. Please support the Western Swing music labels by purchasing their CDs. Most barely make enough money to make their next release. Contrary to what some might think they are not rich. All downloads are compiled as ZIP or RAR files and need to extracted with Winzip, Winrar or any similar program.
I was in the mood to listen to some Guy "Cotton" Thompson a few weeks back and after spending about an hour trying to remember which songs he actually sang on I decided then and there to put together a compilation of his vocal works. Cotton Thompson is one of my all-time favorite western swing singers. He's right up there with Leon Huff, Leon McAuliffe and Tommy Duncan. It's a shame he didn't record more than he did. He was first and foremost a fiddle player, and a great one at that! But I find it sad that the Wills brothers in particular didn't take advantage of his singing talent. Here's a mix of what I could find with three songs from a couple movies he was in with Bob Wills. I believe there are at least another 3 or 4 songs with Cotton on vocals out there somewhere. If anyone knows of any please let me know. 10 of these songs were originally posted in the Dave Edwards & His Alabama Boys download.

This here's a full 45 minute radio show of Bill Cason's Arkansas Troopers recorded in 1952-53 at possibly radio station WWL New Orleans. I don't have much info on either the band or the recording so I'll post any updates I can dig up. I believe Bill Cason recorded on the Coral label in the 50s and the steel guitarist is the great but sadly unknown Johnny Bonvillian. This is the first of two shows we will be sharing. If I was to compare Cason's band to any other of the time I guess Billy Jack Wills & His Western Swing Band would be about right. I'm not sure of the original source of these transcriptions. They've been handed down a few times. Thank you who ever you are! Download Here

I've had lots of requests for the Maddox Brothers & Rose. They are truly one of a kind. Enjoy
From the back cover: The name Rose Maddox is by now synonymous with what Country and Western music is all about. A natural entertainer, "the one Rose" as she has come to be known among her colleagues and fans, is one of today's leading C&W artists. Her authentically "down home", often raucous style, her indefatigable swing, her open wit and good humor, have made her a constant favorite at jamborees and concerts all over the country. Born in Alabama, Rose left there for California with her family when, in her own words, she was "just a little bitty girl." That trip was made on a freight car, but times have since changed. "I've done a lot of traveling over some of those same roads, but now it's always First Class." Probably it is safe to say that Rose Maddox's following is unequaled among contemporary Country singers. Though for a long while she worked and traveled with her brothers (the outstanding group which accompanies her in this album) she has, in recent years, preferred to work as a single and her sparkling talent has graced innumerable jamborees, rodeos, fairs, ballrooms and nightclubs. Rose has purchased a ranch in Oregon and she hopes to raise cattle there. But, as her husband has pointed out, if the people keep making hits out of her records the way they have been, there'll hardly be time for her to go and buy a Bull to get things started.
